Tucson, Arizona - Former Charlotte 49ers men's soccer standout Donnie Smith, who was the 21st overall pick by the New England Revolution in last month's MSL Superdraft, played an integral part in two Revolution goals in their 3-1 win over the New York Red Bulls in a preseason game last Saturday.
In the 52nd minutes, Smith's shot in the box deflected off the hand of a Red Bull defender leading to a Revolution penalty kick. Revolution's Lee Nguyen converted the penalty kick tying the score at 1.
Then, in the 58th minute, Smith sent a long pass into the box which Jerry Bengtson headed into the goal giving the Revolution the lead for good, 2-1.
Smith contributed on New England's game-tying and game-winning goals.
