Charlotte baseball begins the 2013 season at home with a four-game series against the Delaware State Hornets, starting Friday at 4 p.m. The Hornets are the first of five teams on the schedule that earned a berth in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
The first 150 fans in attendance at Friday's season-opener versus Delaware State will receive a 49ers t-shirt. Saturday's noon doubleheader will be Free Youth Day at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. Sunday's game has been moved back to a 1 p.m. start for the series finale.
Single-game tickets for the season are on sale through the 49ers Ticket Office. Students are encouraged to use the online ticketing system, the same system that will be used for football, to get in the habit of printing tickets on their own. There will be limited seating in the lower bowl for students, so they are encouraged to have tickets printed and arrive early to the park on game days because the best seats will go fast.
There are a few season ticket packages remaining in the lower level, so get yours before they sell out for the third-straight season. Charlotte has seen more than 30,000 fans at the stadium through the season for a school-record three-consecutive years. The 49ers ticket office can handle your ticket ordering simply by calling them at 704-687-4949 or visiting the baseball tickets page of Charlotte49ers.com. This year's season-ticket plans offer you the option to include the 2013 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championships, to be contested at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. It marks only the second time that Charlotte has hosted a baseball conference tournament, the first since 1995. The stadium saw $55,000 worth of renovations prior to the start of the season.
The 49ers have won their previous five season-opening games at home, and are 7-1 in season openers since 2005. Under head coach Loren Hibbs, Charlotte is 14-6 over the past 20 years to start the season.
Don't be late to the games this weekend! Since joining the A-10 for 2006 baseball season, Charlotte has scored in the first inning in over 40 percent of its games in that seven-year span!
