"You have to give VCU credit they are a good team that kept us at bay today," Charlotte coach Alan Major said. "Hopefully, we learned a lesson that we need to continue to raise the level of our play to meet the challenges that we face."
Williams recorded his seventh double-figure of the season with 13 points on five-for-six shooting off the bench. Clayton recorded his tenth double-figure scoring game of the season with 12 points. Pierria Henry tied his career-high with 11 rebounds. He also scored eight points. Chris Braswell and E. Victor Nickerson also each scored eight points apiece in the game.
