LYNCHBURG, Va. - A short trek to Lynchburg, Va., did not deter the Charlotte women's tennis team from earning its third-straight victory Saturday, as the Niners clinched a 4-2 triumph over Liberty at the Sports Racket indoor facility.

"Today was another great team win," head coach Michaela Gorman said. "Everyone contributed to the victory today."

The 49ers opened the day by winning the doubles point when they claimed two of the three matches. The top pairing of Anna Ekelund and Lisa Grosselius handed Rebekah Jenkins and Alexandra Sheeran an 8-4 setback.

An identical score in the No. 2 meeting between Natsuko Takayanagi and Alexandra Zinn from Charlotte (5-1) and the Flames' Jessie Boda and Brittany Yang resulted in the point falling to the 49ers' favor for the third-straight time.

Charlotte kept the momentum going, limiting Liberty (0-2) to just two singles wins among the five that finished to lock up its third victory in four tries this spring.

Zinn needed a second-set tiebreaker to knock off Cameron Richard in the No. 1 position match, 6-4, 7-6 (5), while the other two Niners' wins also came in straight sets.

Takayanagi prevailed 6-2, 6-3 against Sheeran in the No. 2 slot, while Ekelund captured a 6-2, 7-5 decision against Thong in the No. 5 matchup.

Charlotte will return to the courts at 1 p.m. Friday when it returns to the Tar Heel State for a trip to Greenville, N.C., to face East Carolina.
