The Charlotte 49ers evened their record at 4-4 with a 7-0 victory over Mercer (0-5) at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. The 49ers won eight of the nine matches to claim the overall victory.
"I attribute this win to two things: a productive week of practice and good overall team concentration," Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. "Mercer is a solid team and they made us work for everything. I'm proud of our effort today."
Charlotte won two of the three doubles matches to capture the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte's Alex Calott and Paul Cisti defeated Mercer's Anderson Scarpa and Joao Pagan, 8-4. At number two doubles, Charlotte's Jordi Massalle Ferrer and Alex Weber lost to Mercer's Arnay Mohanty and Arsay Mohanty, 8-5, for their first doubles loss this season. At number three doubles, Charlotte's Kamil Khalil and Krzysztof Kwasniewicz defeated Mercer's Vincent DeLise and Austin Emmet, 8-4.
Charlotte won all six singles matches to claim the overall victory. At number one singles, Charlotte's Calott defeated Mercer's Arnay Mohanty, 6-3, 6-2. At number two singles. Charlotte's Massalle Ferrer defeated Mercer's Scarpa, 6-3, 6-2. At number three singles, Charlotte's Cisti defeated Mercer's Arsay Mohanty, 6-0, 6-4. At number four singles, Charlotte's Khalil defeated Mercer's Pagan in three hard fought sets, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8). At number five singles, Charlotte's Kwasniewicz defeated Mercer's DeLise, 6-1, 6-4. At number six singles, Charlotte's Nate Shanok defeated Mercer's Emmet, 6-1, 6-1.
Charlotte returns to action when they face College of Charleston at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex, Sunday, February 10 at 1 pm.
