Chris Braswell, who scored a season-high 23 points at Temple last Wednesday, leads the team in scoring at 12 points per game. Braswell is second on the team in rebounding at 5.7 boards per game. Pierria Henry, who scored 14 points and dished out a career-high nine assists at Temple, averages 9.0 points per game. Henry leads the team in assists with 80 and steals with 63. Henry ranks among the nation's leaders in steals. Willie Clayton averages 8.1 points per game. Clayton leads the team in rebounding at 7.0 boards per game. Terrence Williams, who recorded his sixth double-figure scoring game of the season with 11 points off the bench at Temple, averages 6.7 points per game.
Darion Clark, who recorded his fifth double-figure scoring game of the season with 11 points off the bench at Temple, averages 6.5 points per game. Clark is third on the team in rebounding at 4.7 boards per game. Denzel Ingram, who has started the 18 of the last 19 games, averages 6.4 points per game. Ingram scored 13 points on five-for-six shooting at Temple. E. Victor Nickerson, who scored nine points at Temple, averages 5.6 points per game. JT Thompson, who made his first start at Charlotte in the 49ers last home game against Massachusetts, averages 4.3 points per game. Ivan Benkovic recorded his first career double-figure scoring game with 10 points off the bench in the 49ers last home game against Massachusetts.
This game will mark the 42nd meeting between Charlotte and VCU, who leads the all-time series, 26-15. This game will mark the first meeting between the two schools since December 7, 1995. VCU defeated Charlotte at home, 85-74 in that game. DeMarco Johnson led the 49ers with 21 points in that game. Charlotte defeated VCU, 84-71, in their last meeting at Charlotte, February 18, 1995. Jarvis Lang led the 49ers with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The 49ers had three other players score in double-figures in that game. Last weekend, the 49ers recognized the 25th anniversary of the 1987-88 Sun Belt Tournament Championship team. The 49ers defeated VCU, 81-79, in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship game, March 7, 1988 in probably the most memorable game between Charlotte and VCU. Bryon Dinkins led the 49ers with 26 points in that game.
