CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte women's tennis team returns to action this weekend, starting with a home match at 1 p.m. Friday against Mercer before a trip to Lynchburg, Va., to face Liberty at Noon Saturday.

The 49ers own a 3-1 record thus far and picked up a 4-3 victory over Campbell Saturday for the first spring win of the young campaign. The two teams split the six singles matches but Charlotte prevailed after clinching the doubles point early.

Iveta Guneva is the lone Niner to win all four of her dual matches this season and she has collected a team-high eight singles victories. She edges out Anna Ekelund, whose 3-1 dual mark lifts her overall win total to seven.

Ekelund forms one-half of the 49ers' winningest doubles pairing with Lisa Grosselius. The duo has recorded eight triumphs, including three dual, playing at the top position. Natsuko Takayanagi and Alexandra Zinn's five wins are next on the Charlotte ledger.

Mercer brings a 1-2 mark into Friday's meeting after a pair of 7-0 losses last weekend at Samford and at UAB. The Bears opened the spring with a victory at Alabama State.

Liberty dropped its lone dual match of the early season, a 6-1 decision in a neutral-site contest versus Appalachian State Jan. 27. The Flames started the spring at the Florida Gulf Coast Invite before beginning the dual match campaign.

Friday's contest will be the last one at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex until the 49ers start a five-match homestand later in the month.
