NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -
Charlotte senior Jennifer
picked up her second straight and third overall Atlantic 10 Player of
the Week honor when she was recognized by the league office Monday for the week
of Feb. 4. Hailey's three weekly plaudits are the most by anybody in the
conference this season.
The Marshville, N.C., continued her domination through the rest of the Atlantic
10, leading the 49ers to a pair of victories this past week at St. Bonaventure
Wednesday and at home against Duquesne Sunday, knocking the Dukes from the
ranks of the A-10 unbeatens.
She averaged 20.5 points and 15.0 rebounds during the two wins, tallying a
double-double in each contest to extend her streak to six straight. She now has
15 double-doubles on the season and 35 in her career.
During the week, Hailey hit 16-of-27 field goals (59.3 percent) and 9-of-13
free throws (69.2 percent), while adding five blocked shots to her arsenal as
Charlotte raised its overall record to 16-4 and A-10 mark to 5-1 with a
season-high five-straight triumphs.
She has closed within five of tying the school's career blocked shots record,
stands 40 rebounds shy of grabbing 1,000 in her career and places 13th
in program history with 1,276 points through Sunday's contest.
Hailey registered 21 points and 13 rebounds against the Bonnies to open the
week, lifting the Niners to a 64-57 road victory. Then, she added 20 points and
17 boards against the Dukes for her fourth-straight 20-plus scoring game.
Her blocked shot numbers have helped the 49ers defensively limit nine-straight
opponents to 60 points or less, a school record. During the stretch, Charlotte
foes only have scored an average of 50.6 points per game. She also has extended
her own personal streak of at least one blocked shot to 32 consecutive games.
Hailey becomes the 15th
A-10 Player of the Week honoree since the
school joined the conference in 2005-06 and the fourth overall selection during
head coach Cara Consuegra
's two seasons. The three accolades this year tie the
2007-08 campaign for second most during the A-10 era and rank one shy of the
single-season program mark set during 2008-09.
Hailey's three honors are tied for second among the program's A-10 accolades
with current assistant coach Sabrina Gregory
. Danielle Burgin holds the school
mark with four selections.
The 49ers return to action at 7 p.m. Wednesday when they play host to Temple
inside Halton Arena. The contest can be watched live on Charlotte49ers.com with
Josh Feldman handling play-by-play duties. Updates from the contest can be
