CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte track and field team completed its first day of the JDL Hilton Garden Invitational in Winston-Salem earlier Friday evening as the women’s team turned in more record-breaking performances. 

Evelyn Putman set a school record in the pentathlon with 3,162 points, breaking the previous mark of 3,124 which she set last season. Putman was third in the long jump (17’11.75), fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.15), sixth in the high jump (4’11), seventh in the 800m (2:39.40), and 13th in the shot put (25’8.25).

Katrina Wright who continues to improve each week, also broke her own school record in the weight throw with a new toss of 55’5.75. Wright who finished third overall, set the previous record just last weekend at the Hokie Invitational with a throw of 55’3. On the men’s side Jake Deaton also finished third in the weight throw (57’9.75).

Joann Blakney was the top collegiate finisher and second overall in the 60m with a time of 7.44. Briauna Jones was the sixth collegiate finisher and seventh overall crossing the line at 7.71.

In the distance events, Zach Greth turned in a team-best performance in the 5000m run. Greth was second (14:56.20) and his time ranks fifth on the Charlotte all-time list. Ashley Edwards finished eighth in the 5000m (18:41.17).

Former 49er Jake Wainwright completed four events in the heptathlon which resumes tomorrow. So far, Wainwright has finished first in the 60m (7.23), long jump (21’9), and high jump (6’46). He was sixth in the shot put. 

The final day of the meet concludes Saturday, Feb.2 beginning at 9:45 a.m. with the heptathlon. The running and field events will start at 10 a.m.
