Charlotte N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers (16-4, A-10: 4-2) will play Massachusetts (14-5, A-10: 4-2) in their homecoming game in Halton Arena, Saturday, February 2 at 2 pm. This game will mark the final homecoming game involving a basketball game as homecoming will move to a football game starting this fall. Prior to the game, former 49ers men's hoops standouts will participate in the annual alumni game at 11 am. The men's basketball alumni in attendance will also be recognized at halftime.
Chris Braswell, who scored 11 points in the 49ers last game against George Washington, averages 11.5 points per game. Braswell is second on the team in rebounding at 5.6 boards per game. Braswell is one of only eight players in school history with 1,000 career points and 750 career rebounds. Pierria Henry averages 9.0 points per game. Henry, who scored 11 points against George Washington, averages 10.7 points per game in A-10 play. Henry leads the team in assists with 66 and steals with 54. Henry ranks among the nation's leaders in steals. Willie Clayton averages 8.3 points per game. Clayton leads the team in rebounding at 7.4 boards per game. Clayton scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the 49ers last home game against Xavier. Terrence Williams averages 6.4 points per game. Williams, who has started 19 of Charlotte's 20 games this season, has recorded five double-figure scoring games this year.
Darion Clark, who blocked four shots in the 49ers last home game against Xavier, averages 6.3 points per game. Clark is third on the team in rebounding at 4.9 boards per game. Denzel Ingram, who has started 16 of Charlotte's last 17 games, averages 6.2 points per game. Ingram scored 12 points including 10 points in the first half in Charlotte's last home game against Xavier. E. Victor Nickerson averages 5.0 points per game. JT Thompson averages 4.5 points per game. Ivan Benkovic has knocked down at least one three point field goal in five games this season.
This game will mark the 12th meeting between Charlotte and Massachusetts. UMass leads the all-time series, 6-5. Massachusetts defeated Charlotte, 85-75, in their last meeting which came at Massachusetts, January 11, 2012. Braswell led the 49ers with 31 points and nine rebounds in that game. Massachusetts defeated Charlotte, 73-54, in their last meeting in Halton Arena, January 19, 2011. Former 49er Derrio Green led the 49ers with 12 points. Braswell scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in that game.
