Washington, D.C. - The Charlotte 49ers (16-3, A-10: 4-1) travel to the Nation's Capital to play Atlantic 10 foe George Washington (9-9, A-10: 3-2), Saturday, January 26 at 2 pm. Niner nation can watch the game in the Charlotte area on CW 46 WJZY.
Chris Braswell, who scored 12 points against Xavier, leads the 49ers in scoring at 11.6 points per game. Braswell is second on the team in rebounding at 5.8 boards per game. Braswell is one of only eight players in school history with 1,000 career points and 750 career rebounds. DeMario Mayfield is second on the team in scoring at 11.4 points per game. Mayfield leads the 49ers in scoring in A-10 games at 13.8 points per game. Mayfield scored 13 points against Xavier for his 13th double-figure scoring game of the season. Pierria Henry is third on the team in scoring at 8.9 points per game. Henry averages 10.6 points per game in A-10 play. Henry leads the team in assists with 62 and steals with 51. Henry ranks among the nation's leaders in steals. Willie Clayton is fourth on the team in scoring at 8.5 points per game. Clayton leads the team in rebounding at 7.3 boards per game. Clayton scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds against Xavier. Terrence Williams is fifth on the team in scoring at 6.7 points per game. Williams, who has started 18 of Charlotte's 19 this season, has recorded five double-figure scoring games this year.
Darion Clark, who blocked four shots in the Xavier game, averages 6.5 points per game. Clark is third on the team in rebounding at 5.1 boards per game. Denzel Ingram, who has started the last 15 games, is tied with Clark for sixth on the team in scoring at 6.5 points per game. Ingram scored 12 points including 10 points in the first half in the Xavier game. E. Victor Nickerson averages 4.9 points per game. JT Thompson, who scored a season-high 12 points against Fordham last week, averages 4.6 points per game. Ivan Benkovic has knocked down at least one three point field goal in five games this season.
This game will mark the 26th meeting between the two teams. George Washington leads the all-time series, 14-11. This year will mark the first time since the 2008 season that Charlotte and George Washington will only play once. The last four years the two teams played twice each season. George Washington defeated Charlotte 60-52 at home in their last meeting in Washington, D.C., January 21, 2012. Braswell recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds in that game. Charlotte defeated George Washington, 72-62, in their last meeting which was played at Charlotte's Halton Arena, February 22, 2012. Braswell scored 19 points. Former 49ers standout Javarris Barnett scored 18 points. DeMario Mayfield scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in that game.
