Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers (15-3, A-10: 3-1) play Xavier (11-6, A-10: 4-0) in Halton Arena in a Whiteout game, Wednesday, January 23 at 7:30 pm. The game has been designated a whiteout game so fans are encouraged to wear white to the game.
Chris Braswell leads the 49ers in scoring at 11.5 points per game. Braswell, who nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds at Richmond, is second on the team in rebounding at 6.1 boards per game. Braswell is one of only eight players in school history with 1,000 career points and 750 career rebounds. DeMario Mayfield is second on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game. Mayfield leads the 49ers in scoring in A-10 games at 14 points per game. Mayfield scored 11 points off the bench against Richmond for his 12th double-figure scoring game of the season. Pierria Henry is third on the team in scoring at 9.2 points per game. Henry averages 12.5 points per game in A-10 play. Henry leads the team in assists with 58 and steals with 50. Henry ranks among the nation's leaders in steals. Willie Clayton is fourth on the team in scoring at 8.2 points per game. Clayton leads the team in rebounding at 7.3 boards per game. Terrence Williams is fifth on the team in scoring at 7.1 points per game. Williams, who has started all 18 games this season, has recorded five double-figure scoring games this year.
Darion Clark, who scored 11 points off the bench in the 49ers last home game against Fordham game, averages 6.5 points per game. Clark is third on the team in rebounding at 5.0 boards per game. Denzel Ingram, who has started the last 15 games, is sixth on the team in scoring at 6.2 points per game. E. Victor Nickerson averages 5.1 points per game. JT Thompson, who has scored 20 points off the bench in the 49ers last two games, averages 4.9 points per game. Ivan Benkovic has knocked down at least one three point field goal in five games this season.
This game will mark the 14th meeting between Charlotte and Xavier. Xavier leads the all-time series, 11-2. Xavier has won five of the last seven meetings between the two teams. The 49ers have won two of the last three meetings between the two teams in Halton Arena. Xavier won both meetings between the two teams last season. Xavier defeated Charlotte, 74-70, in Halton Arena, January 28, 2012. The 49ers had three players in double-figures led by former 49ers standout Javarris Barnett's 27 points. Mayfield scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Braswell scored 14 points in that game. Xavier defeated Charlotte, 72-63, in their last meeting which came at Xavier, March 3, 2012. Braswell scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds in that game.
