Charlotte, NC -Charlotte 49ers midfielder Donnie Smith was selected as the 21st  overall pick (second pick of the second round) by the New England Revolution in today's Major League Soccer's SuperDraft.

"Watching my name called was a surreal out-of-body experience," Smith said. "This is something that I have dreamed about my entire life. Playing at Charlotte really prepared me for this opportunity to play at the next level."

Smith, who earned All-Atlantic 10 honors three times in his career, was named Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year this past season. He earned first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors in 2012 and 2010. He was a second-team All-Atlantic 10 selection in 2011. Smith scored four goals and recorded four assists this past season. Smith scored game-winning goals against South Carolina, Richmond and Saint Louis.

"This is an incredible achievement by Donnie," Charlotte coach Kevin Langan said. "It is a just reward for a stellar career at Charlotte. Donnie is an incredibly humble player who embraced the Charlotte culture. He was an impactful player for us. This past season, as a senior, he really stepped up and realized his full potential. We are very proud of Donnie. I am excited to watch his career progress."
