CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Junior Katrina Wright set a new indoor school record in the weight throw following a dynamic performance at the UAB Blazer Invitational at the Birmingham Metro CrossPlex, Friday afternoon.

Wright, who finished third, had a toss of 55'2" (16.83m) to shatter the previous record of 54'0" (16.46m) set by Sharonda Bailey in 2010. Wright's toss was also a personal-best.

Also performing well for the women was sophomore T'Sheila Mungo who finished first in a field of 73 in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.54.

In the men's field events senior Jake Deaton won the shot put with a throw of 56'5" (17.23m), while sophomore Trey McRae finished second in the high jump with a leap of 6'9.75" (2.08m).

Sophomore Lauren Gulley took fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5'5" (1.65m) which is tied for fourth on the all-time top ten list. Brittney Simmons tied for fifth in the high jump (5'3"/1.60m) which is also tied for ninth on the all-time top ten list.

Freshman Alvonna Blakney finished fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.71. Her time ranks sixth on the all-time top ten list. Rookie Anthony Bynum finished fourth in the 200 meter dash (21.49) which is fourth on the all-time list. He also competed in a tough field in the 60 meter dash but his time of 6.90 now ranks tenth on the all-time list.

Charlotte also picked up some solid efforts in the women's one-mile run. Maraya Slatter was fourth (5:05.10), Maria Ruiz was fifth (5:05.72), and Morgan Richards was sixth (5:06.72). Richards was also fifth in the 800 meter run (2:18.35).

Sean Kluttz took fifth in the one-mile run (4:22.04) and the men's 4x400 meter relay team (John Osborne, Chris Tate, Brian Hamilton, and Christopher Boyd) were fifth (3:19.57). Freshman Anthony Campbell also picked up a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of (47'1"/14.35m).

"It was a decent meet for us with good experience at a new facility that will feature future conference championships for us," said head coach Robert Olesen.  "We established a few new conference leaders along with a school record and now know where we stand after the winter break. We're looking forward to some solid development in the heart of the indoor season at Virginia Tech the next two weeks."

The Niners will travel to Blacksburg, Va. for the Virginia Tech Invitational, beginning on Friday, Jan. 18.
