Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers (12-2) begin Atlantic 10 play in Halton Arena against La Salle (10-3), Wednesday, January 9 at 7:30 pm.
The 49ers will begin Atlantic 10 play at home in Halton Arena against La Salle this Wednesday. The 49ers are 5-2 in their A-10 home opener and 4-3 in their Atlantic 10 opener. Since the 1991-92 season, the 49ers are 15-6 in their league home opener and 10-11 in their league opener.
Chris Braswell, who recorded a career-high four blocked shots in the UNC Asheville game, leads the 49ers in scoring at 12.5 points per game. Braswell is second on the team in rebounding at 6.2 boards per game. DeMario Mayfield is second on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game. Mayfield scored 15 points off the bench against UNC Asheville. Willie Clayton, who recorded his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 16 rebounds against UNC Asheville, is third on the team in scoring at 8.9 points per game. Clayton was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for his performance in the UNC Asheville game. Clayton leads the team in rebounding at 7.3 boards per game. Pierria Henry is fourth on the team in scoring at 8.3 points per game. Henry leads the team in assists with 52 and steals with 43. Henry is second in the Atlantic 10 and fourth in the nation in steals per game at 3.3. Terrence Williams is fifth on the team in scoring at 7.9 points per game. Williams, who has started all 14 games this season, has recorded five double-figure scoring games this season. Denzel Ingram, who has started the last 11 games, is sixth on the team in scoring at 7.1 points per game. Ingram scored a career-high tying 16 points against UNC Asheville. Darion Clark averages 6.2 points per game. Clark is third on the team in rebounding at 5.4 boards per game. E. Victor Nickerson, who started three games this season, averages 4.7 points per game. JT Thompson has given the 49ers quality minutes off the bench this season. He averages 4.6 points per game. Ivan Benkovic has knocked down at least one three point field goal in five games this season.
This game will mark the ninth meeting between Charlotte and La Salle. The 49ers lead the all-time series, 5-3. However, La Salle has won the last two meetings between the two teams. La Salle defeated Charlotte at home, 85-72, in their last meeting, February 1, 2012. Braswell led the 49ers with 19 points. Former 49ers standout Javarris Barnett and Mayfield each scored 15 points. Charlotte lost to La Salle, 91-86, in double overtime in their last game in Halton Arena, January 29, 2011. Charlotte's last win against La Salle was an 84-82 victory at La Salle, January 23, 2010.
