NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Charlotte 49ers women's
basketball senior
Jennifer Hailey was selected as the Dec. 31 Atlantic 10
Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office. She becomes
the first 49ers player to receive the nod this season and the first of her
career.
Hailey picked up the honor after receiving all-tournament team accolades
following the GSU Holiday & Hoops Tournament in Atlanta over the weekend,
leading the 49ers to a 1-1 record in the event.
She started the weekend with 26 points, one shy of her career high, against
Toledo Saturday, draining 10-of-18 field goals and 6-of-10 free throws. During
a 12-minute span of the second half, she was the only Niner to score, racking
up 13-straight points. She also added nine rebounds, finishing just shy of a
double-double.
She then closed the tournament with her eighth double-double of the season and

th of her career with 16 points and 10 rebounds against
Mississippi Valley State. With a blocked shot against Toledo and two against
the Devilettes, she extended her consecutive games streak with at least one
blocked shot to 24.
For the week, she averaged 21 points and 9.5 rebounds as the 49ers improved to
9-3 overall.
Hailey is the second Charlotte player of the week honoree under head coach Cara
Consuegra and the 13
th overall for the program since it joined the
Atlantic 10 Conference. Hailey picked up her second overall weekly plaudit,
after receiving the league's Rookie of the Week Nov. 16, 2009.
The 49ers have collected seven A-10 Rookie of the Week nods but none since the
2010-11 campaign.
Charlotte will resume its season at Noon Thursday when it plays host to Coppin
State for the annual Education Day game inside Halton Arena. It marks the first
of four contests out of five games to open the 2013 calendar at home for the
Niners.
