Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers (11-1) face ACC foe Florida State (6-4) at Time Warner Cable Arena in uptown Charlotte, Saturday, December 22 at 2 pm. This game has been designated a blackout game so fans are encouraged to wear black to the game. This game will be broadcast nationally on the CBS Sports Network.
The halftime entertainment will be Bucket Drummer - Peter Rabbit. He has performed in Halton Arena on two previous occasions. Peter Rabbit began performing in the streets in New York City, only later to be discovered by Savion Glover who casted Peter as one of the original members of the Broadway Production and first national touring company of the five-time Tony Award Winning smash hit "Bring in 'da Noise Bring in 'da Funk". After six years on Broadway, he has toured with artists like the Neville Brothers and Kanye West. Currently he is one of the most requested acts within NBA and NCAA arenas and many international festivals in North America.
Chris Braswell leads the 49ers in scoring at 12.6 points per game. Braswell leads the team in rebounding at 6.5 boards per game. DeMario Mayfield is second on the team in scoring at 9.4 points per game. Mayfield's first half highlight reel dunk in the Radford game was ESPN's Sportscenter's Top Play of the Day. Willie Clayton is third on the team in scoring at 8.3 points per game. Clayton is second on the team in rebounding at 6.3 boards per game. He leads the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage by shooting 63.5% from the field. Terrence Williams and Pierria Henry are tied for fourth on the team in scoring at 8.0 points per game. Williams, who has started all 12 games this season, has recorded four double-figure scoring games this season. Henry leads the team in assists with 42 and steals with 34. Denzel Ingram, who has started the last nine games, is sixth on the team in scoring at 6.8 points per game. Ingram leads the team with 12 three-point field goals made. Darion Clark averages 6.7 points per game. Clark is third on the team in rebounding at 5.8 boards per game. E. Victor Nickerson, who started three games this season, averages 5.4 points per game. Nickerson has connected on five of his last seven three-point field goal attempts. JT Thompson has given the 49ers quality minutes off the bench this season. He averages 4.8 points per game. Ivan Benkovic has knocked down at least one three point field goal in five of the last nine games.
This game will mark the fifth meeting between Charlotte and Florida State. The two teams have split the first four meetings. Charlotte won the first two meetings. Florida State has won the last two meetings including a 63-59 win over Charlotte in Orlando, Florida, December 19, 1992. The 49ers last win against Florida State was an 88-79 victory at the Charlotte Coliseum, February 13, 1978.
