CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers (7-0), who are off to the best start in school history, play cross-county rival Davidson (4-3) on the road, Wednesday, December 5 at 8:30 pm. The game will broadcast on ESPN3.
Chris Braswell leads the 49ers in scoring at 15.2 points per game. He also leads the 49ers in rebounding at 6.7 boards per game. Braswell has recorded five double-figure scoring games off the bench this season. DeMario Mayfield and Terrence Williams are tied for second on the team in scoring at 10.6 points per game. Mayfield has recorded four double-figure scoring games off the bench this season. Williams has recorded four double-figure scoring games this season. Pierria Henry is fourth on the team in scoring at 7.7 points per game. He leads the team in assists with 28 and steals with 18. Denzel Ingram, who scored 11 points against Texas State, is fifth on the team in scoring at 7.5 points per game. Willie Clayton, who recorded his first career double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds against East Carolina, averages 7.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Denzel Ingram, who has started the last four games, averages 6.7 points per game this season. Darion Clark averages 6.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. E. Victor Nickerson, who did not play in the Great Alaska Shootout due to an ankle injury, returned to the 49ers lineup against East Carolina last Saturday. He averages 4.5 points per game. JT Thompson has given the 49ers quality minutes off the bench. He averages 4.7 points per game. Ivan Benkovic has knocked down at least one three point field goal in four straight games.
The 49ers stellar defense has been one of the keys to the 49ers hot start. Charlotte ranks seventh in the nation in field goal percentage defense. The 49ers have held their seven opponents to 34.6% shooting from the field.
This game will mark the 39th meeting between Charlotte and Davidson. The 49ers lead the all-time series, 27-11. Charlotte has won 11 of the last 14 meetings in a series that dates began February 19, 1979. Davidson defeated Charlotte, 82-58, in their last meeting at Davidson, December 11, 2010. Charlotte leads the all-times series, 6-5, in games played at Davidson. Charlotte defeated Davidson, 84-61, in their last meeting which came in Halton Arena, December 10, 2011. Braswell led the 49ers with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Henry and Nickerson each scored 10 points in the game. Former 49ers standout Javarris Barnett scored 15 points. The 49ers outscored Davidson, 54-30, in the second half.
