CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will join forces with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves to host the ninth annual Toys for Tots drive beginning in December.

Fans will have two opportunities to participate in the drive. The first collection will take place Saturday, December 1 at Halton Arena during the men's basketball game against East Carolina. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip.

The second collection is set for Saturday, December 8 when the women's basketball team takes on Stetson at 7 p.m. at Halton Arena.

During the games, fans are invited to donate new, unwrapped toys that will later be distributed to children in need. Fans can drop donations in the marked "Toys for Tots" bin at the entrance to Halton Arena prior to each game.

Student-athletes from each of Charlotte's varsity sports teams will host collections of their own in a friendly competition against other teams to see who can collect the most donations.

Toys for Tots began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to children.
