Giving back to the Charlotte community is an important part of 49er athletics.
49er student-athletes, coaches and staff donate their time and talents to the greater Charlotte community through various projects, organizations and causes each year. In fact, since 2007 Charlotte student-athletes have donated over 17,100 hours.
2013-2014 Program Highlights:
Men’s Soccer led all sports with an average of 25.42 hours donated per team member during the year.
115 student-athletes (33%) completed 6 hours or more of community service.
33 student-athletes (roughly 10%) completed 20 hours or more of community service.
57% (1575 hours) of all efforts were “kid-focused”, from reading at elementary schools to mentoring girls at a middle school to conducting sport clinics to collecting toys and visiting Levine Children’s Hospital.
SAAC participated in the C-USA Let’s SAAC Hunger program in Fall 2013.
SAAC hosted a week-long drive in which they partnered with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina to collect canned goods on campus from 11/4/13-11/8/13. Members of SAAC collected canned goods at home men’s basketball and women’s basketball games that week. SAAC also created an online donation profile page that ran from 10/28/13-12/15/13. SAAC collected 2, 058 lbs. of food & placed 9th out of 17 schools in C-USA!
SAAC hosted the 10th Annual Toys for Tots drive in December 2013 in which they collected 193 toys and $362 of monetary donations.
The athletic department participated in the 1st ever campus Habitat for Humanity Homecoming Build scheduled from Sept. 30 – Oct. 11, 2013. Overall, 4 teams (Softball, W. Basketball, M. & W. Track/XC) volunteered a total of 168.5 hours.
