CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers softball team took some time out of its fall schedule to volunteer with the Miracle League program at the University City YMCA and the Fall Stroll for Epilepsy.
The team spent two Saturday mornings in October with the University City YMCA Miracle League program. Miracle League gives children with disabilities a chance to play baseball. The Miracle League field is a custom-designed baseball complex that has Charlotte's first completely wheelchair accessible surface that allows children of all abilities to take the field.
The 49ers served as buddies for the children playing baseball. They played catch, served as pitchers, assisted with batting, and went around the bases with the kids while cheered them on.
The team also volunteered at the Fall Stroll for Epilepsy in November at Charlotte's Irwin Belk Track and Field Center. The Niners greeted families as they arrived to the event, assisted with registration, and partnered up with a child and family for the walk and festivities.
The 49ers also showed children and participants the different activities available to them. The team played games like corn hole, danced, ate breakfast, played on the inflatables, painted pumpkins, face-painted, and did crafts with the kids.
