CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers softball program is proud to reveal the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent for its 2013 recruiting class, announced Tuesday morning by head coach Aimee DeVos.
The quartet includes three North Carolina natives, Beth Blackburn, Mackenzie Hauser, and Paige Wall, as well as Brittany Mitchell from New York.
Blackburn, a left-handed pitcher, has been a four-year starter for Cape Fear High School. In 2012, she appeared in 19 games and tabbed a 15-4 record in the circle. She finished with 117 strikeouts and a 1.74 earned run average (ERA). Blackburn was also a first-team All-State, All-District, and All-Conference selection that produced a .459 batting average last season. Blackburn led Cumberland County in home runs and tied the Cape Fear High School home run record (24). Her career at Cape Fear also includes being named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year in 2011, along with several state, district, and conference awards and recognition.
Hauser, a right-handed pitcher, has helped her high school, North Davidson, become one of the state's premier programs. Hauser is a two time All-State performer, who went 11-4 with a 0.83 ERA and 152 strikeouts last season. The Black Knights posted a record of 28-5-0 and were undefeated in the Central Piedmont Conference (CPC). Her career includes being named the CPC Pitcher of the Year in 2011, along with All-District and All-Conference honors.
Mitchell, a four-year starter at Thu Ursuline School, will look to add to Charlotte's depth as a pitcher and utility player. She is a National Fastpicth Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Scholar Athlete in addition to three All-Section-All League honors in three different positions. Her versatility includes playing at shortstop, third base, and pitching. Mitchell was named to the New York State (NYS) All-Star team in both her sophomore and junior seasons. Additionally, she is the niece of Bonnie Bell Shelton, a former Charlotte softball player.
Wall, a second basemen also from North Davidson High School, hit .426 as a junior with six doubles and 27 RBIs as the Knights reached the 4-A semifinals. She was a third team All-American selection that yielded a .955 fielding percentage which earned her the North Davidson Defensive Player of the Year accolade. Wall's other accomplishments include being named to All-Conference, All-County, All-Region, and All-State teams.
