KINGSTON, R.I. - The 19th season of Charlotte women's soccer came to a close Thursday as the 49ers dropped a 2-0 contest to La Salle in Atlantic 10 Championships quarterfinal action at the URI Soccer Complex in Kingston, R.I. It marked the second meeting in the league tournament between the two schools.

The Explorers, who captured the conference's top seed after winning the regular-season crown, jumped on top 1-0 in the 33rd minute when Maryam Huseini converted a free kick from 20 yards out at 32:42 following a 49ers foul.

The La Salle (15-4-1) advantage swelled to 2-0 at 62:59 as it bombarded the Charlotte net with an 18-to-4 shot edge during the second 45 minutes. The Niners held strong, turning away three consecutive attempts in the 58th minute before the Explorers broke through.

Gabriella Carbone sent a cross into the box, locating the feet of Amanda Komarnicki, who redirected it between the pipes for the game's final score.

La Salle's Ashley Chilcoat paced all players with six shots, placing three on goal, while Huseini added five and Renee Washington chipped in four.

Seniors Carrie Dail and Lena Suarez, playing in their final Charlotte (10-8-2) match, along with Dakota Olson topped the 49ers with two shots apiece. Fellow senior Lacey McGowan also earned the start in her final contest wearing the green and white.

Charlotte concludes the campaign with its third double-digit win total in head coach John Cullen's four years. The 49ers finished their final season competing in the Atlantic 10 Conference with the loss. Charlotte will return to Conference USA action next fall after being a charter member of the league from 1995 through 2004, claiming conference tournament titles in 1995 and 1998.
