Cary, NC - The Charlotte 49ers men's tennis concluded their play in the ITA Carolina Regionals.
"Overall, I was pleased with our efforts this weekend at the Regional Tournament," Charlotte coach Billy Boykin said. "To square off against some of the top ranked teams and players in the nation is great experience for our young players. We recorded wins in singles and doubles against a number of nationally competitive programs and will try to take something away from each of our matches."
Charlotte's Kryzsztof Kwasniewicz lost to Winthrop's Yuta Hirowaka in the second round of the consolation bracket, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
Then, Jack Williams won several matches in the consolation bracket. First, he defeated Duke's DJ McCall, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Then, he defeated Appalachian State's Sebastian King, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Then, he defeated College of Charleston's Sebastian Lopez, 6-3, 6-3. He then defeated Coastal Carolina's Ted Nilsson, 6-3, 6-4, in his final match.
Alex Calott was trailing College of Charleston's Lopez, 7-6 (4) before retiring in the second round of the consolation bracket.
Paul Cisti lost NC State's Thomas Weigel, 6-2, 6-3, in the second round of the consolation bracket.
The doubles team of Calott and Cisti lost to NC State's Austin Powell and Thomas Weigel, 8-5.
The doubles teams Kamil Khalil and Kwasniewicz defeated UNC Wilmington's Kaue Pereira and Michael Reilly, 8-5. Then, they lost to Elon's Stefan Fortman and Cameron Silverman, 9-7.
In other doubles action, Charlotte's Edwards and Williams lost to UNC Wilmington's Pedro Mol and Zach Hublitz, 9-8 (6).
Then, Charlotte's Cisti and Calott lost to NC State's Austin Powell and Thomas Weigel, 8-5. Then, they lost to South Carolina's Chip Cox and Kyle Koch, 9-7.
Charlotte wraps up their fall tournament schedule at the Cougar Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston, November 2-4.
