Charlotte, N.C.  - Behind a season-high six goals from five different players, the 18th-ranked Charlotte 49ers (10-2-3, A-10: 4-1-1) ran past the Rhode Island Rams (2-9-3, A-10: 1-3-1), 6-1, at Transamerica Field. The 49ers' six goals were most goals scored by the 49ers since scoring six goals in a 6-0 win over George Washington, October 9, 2009.

Jennings Rex became the third Niner this weekend to score two goals in a game. Kyle Parker, Anthony Perez, Tyler Gibson and Giuseppe Gentile scored the 49ers other four goals.

"It is great that a goal can from anyone at any time," Charlotte coach Kevin Langan. "We are creating a lot of scoring chances from a variety of players. This shows that the star of our team is the team."

The 49ers dominated the run of play for the majority of the game. Charlotte was putting a great deal on pressure on the Rhode Island's defense with 11 shots over the first 40 minutes of action. In the 43rd minute, Parker scored the game's first goal when he headed in an Isaac Caughran cross from about eight yards in front of the goal. Parker's goal was his second of the season.

Then, just over a one minute and 38 seconds later, Parker gave Rex a great through ball down the right side of the field. Rex took a couple of dribbles and sent a shot toward the far left post past the diving Rhode Island goalkeeper Thomas Spenser into the back of the net at the 43:40 minute mark.

Early in the second half, Gentile crossed the ball to Perez on the left side of the box. Perez put a shot toward the right far post into the net in the 48th minute. Perez's goal was his second of the season.

Just over two minutes later, Gentile beat a couple of Rhode Island defenders. Then, he was taken down in the box by the Rhode Island goalkeeper Spenser giving the 49ers a penalty kick. Gibson converted the penalty kick in the 50th minute for his second goal of the season.

In the 63rd minute, a Rhode Island offensive player was fouled in the box by Charlotte's backup goalkeeper Austin Pack giving the Rams a penalty kick. Matt Sykes converted on the penalty kick for his fourth goal of the season.

In the 66th minute, Parker passed the ball to Gentile who blasted a shot into the near post from 20 yards out giving the 49ers a 5-1 lead. Gentile's goal was his seventh of the season and the 17th of his career.

Rex recorded his second multi goal scoring game of the season when he put a pass from Gibson into the back of the net from 10 yards out in the 79th minute.

Charlotte finished the game with a 24-9 advantage in shots. Gentile led the 49ers with 10 shots. Perez and Rex tallied three shots apiece. Gibson and Parker each recorded two shots.

Charlotte's defense was stellar again only allowing the one penalty kick goal in 90 minutes of play. Charlotte has not allowed a goal in run of play in over 489 minutes. The 49ers have only allowed one goal in their last five games.

Charlotte hits the road this upcoming weekend for their final two regular-season road games when they travel to Saint Louis and Butler, October 26-28. First, the 49ers play nationally-ranked Saint Louis on the road, Friday, October 26 at 8 pm.
