WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Both doubles pairs for the Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team advanced to the next round at the ITA Carolina Regional in Winston-Salem, N.C., Thursday.

The tandem of Natsuko Takayanagi and Alexandra Zinn moved into the Round of 32 after the duo from North Carolina A&T, Cayla Cross and Nianna Henry, withdrew. The Charlotte twosome will now face North Carolina's Tessa Lyons and Lauren McHale.

The 49ers picked up a 9-8 (5) Round of 64 win, as Anna Ekelund and Lisa Grosselius knocked off Annette Rios and Dilara Yurtkuran. Charlotte's pair will now square off against Elon's Frida Jansaker and Jordan Johnston, one of seeded tandems.

Qualifying singles bracket action began the day with Grosselius and Takayanagi representing the Niners. Takayanagi won her first match, a 6-1, 6-1 decision against North Carolina State's Christy Sipes but then she fell in her ensuing contest.

The main draw singles starts Friday with Ekelund and Zinn set to play for the first time. Ekelund meets North Carolina's Laura Slater, while Zinn matches up against South Carolina's Dominika Kanakova.
