Charlotte, NC- The nationally-ranked Charlotte 49ers men's soccer team (8-2-3) (18th in College Soccer and Soccer America and 25th in NSCAA polls) plays Massachusetts (4-6-2, A-10: 1-2) and Rhode Island (2-7-3, A-10: 1-1-1) at Transamerica Field this weekend, October 19-21. First, the 49ers play Massachusetts, Friday, October 19 at 7 pm. Then, the 49ers play Rhode Island at Transamerica Field, Sunday, October 21 at 1 pm.

For Friday's game against Massachusetts, the 49ers will wear pink jerseys for Breast Cancer Awareness. The jerseys worn at the game will be auctioned off. Fans can also donate at the game. All proceeds from the auction and donations taking at the game will go towards the 49ers volleyball team's Dig Pink initiative.

Jennings Rex, who recorded his second multi-goal game of the season against La Salle last Sunday, leads the 49ers in goals with five. Giuseppe Gentile is second on the team with four goals. Donnie Smith is third on the team with three goals. He leads the team with two game-winning goals. Aidan Kirkbride has scored two goals this season. Isaac Caughran and Tyler Gibson are tied for the team lead with three assists. Gentile, Smith, Kirkbride, Will Mayhew and Nick Barnhorst have each recorded two assists this season.

The 49ers defense behind the play of goalkeeper Klay Davis and defenders Thomas Allen, Anthony Perez, Barnhorst, David Mayer, Aaron Weldon and Biko Bradnock-Brennan has been stellar this season. The 49ers have recorded six shutouts, including three straight shutouts, and limited 10 foes to a goal or less this season.

Friday's game will mark the eighth meeting between Charlotte and Massachusetts. The 49ers lead the all-time series, 3-2-2. Charlotte defeated UMASS on the road, 2-1 in their last meeting, October 7, 2011. Allen and Gentile scored for the 49ers in that game. Then, the 49ers defeated UMASS, 2-0, in their last meeting at Transamerica Field, November 5, 2010. Smith and Mayhew scored goals for the 49ers in that game.

Sunday's game will mark the eighth meeting between Charlotte and Rhode Island. The series is tied 2-2-3. Charlotte and Rhode Island tied, 1-1, in double overtime in their last meeting which came on the road, October 9, 2011. Gentile scored the 49ers' goal. The 49ers defeated Rhode Island, 5-2, in their last meeting at Transamerica Field, November 7, 2010. Former 49ers standout Andres Cuero scored two goals in that game. Former 49ers stalwarts Evan James and Charles Rodriguez as well as Donnie Smith scored the 49ers other three goals.

Admission to each game is $5 for adults and $2 for youth (17-and-under). Friday's game is Faculty/Staff night so any Charlotte 49ers faculty or staff with a valid University ID can request a free ticket to the game but it must been done in advance. Charlotte 49ers student are admitted free with a valid student ID.
