CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Four members of the Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team will represent the program this weekend, starting Thursday, at the ITA Carolina Regional in Winston-Salem, N.C. Each of the four players will compete in singles and then pair off into two doubles tandems.

Niners making the trek to the fall season-ending tournament include Anna Ekelund, Lisa Grosselius, Natsuko Takayanagi and Alexandra Zinn.

"We're looking for some good tennis over the weekend," head coach Michaela Gorman said. "We will be indoors, so the elements, including wind and anything along those lines, shouldn't bother us. We are just ready to go play."

Official draws for the event have not been released; however, Gorman noted two players will be in the qualifying singles while the other duo has made the main draw to open action.

Ekelund is one of three 49ers to register a team-high six singles victories this fall. She split her two contests last weekend at the home event, the Charlotte 49er Invitational.

Grosselius has tallied four singles wins thus far this fall, one more than Takayanagi. However, Takayanagi is entering the tournament by winning two of three last weekend in the round-robin event at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

Zinn has battled through injuries in her final fall campaign, seeing her first singles action last weekend.

The combinations that have produced the most doubles triumphs include the tandems of Ekelund and Grosselius and Takayanagi and Zinn. They have combined for 10 of the team's 19 victories, including a team-best half dozen by Ekelund and Grosselius.
