Charlotte, N.C. -- The Charlotte 49ers have announced a home-and-home football series with BIG EAST member Temple, beginning in 2015.

The Temple series will begin with the 49ers hosting the Owls, Oct. 3, 2015 at the on-campus 49ers Football Stadium.  Charlotte will make a return trip to Temple, Sept. 24, 2016.

"It's huge for our program to have a BIG EAST team play a home-and-home series," said 49ers head coach Brad Lambert. "Thanks to our relationship with Temple through the Atlantic 10 we were able to get this scheduled.  I think it's a big deal to have them come in here.  Coach (Steve) Addazio is doing a great job up there.  It will be a big challenge but we're excited about the opportunity to play them."

This is the 49ers second home-and-home series with an Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent.  Charlotte is scheduled to play FBS Independent Old Dominion in 2013 and 2014.

Charlotte's inaugural season will be in 2013 and the 49ers will play as an FCS Independent in 2013 and 2014.  Charlotte will begin play as an FBS member in 2015 when it makes its Conference USA debut.
