Charlotte volleyball played to another tight opening, but fell late to Saint Louis 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-15) on Sunday at Halton Arena in Atlantic 10 Volleyball action. It was the third match in the team's current five-match home stand. The loss drops the 49ers to 8-11 overall, 0-7 in league play. The Billikens improve to 7-14, 2-5 in the A-10.

The teams played a tight opening set, with nine ties and five lead changes. The 49ers found an early 5-0 surge to take a 10-5 lead, but the Billikens were able to reel it back in with a pair of 3-0 runs in the middle going. The Niners led as late as 19-18 but three-straight SLU points gave the Billikens the lead for good in the opening frame.

SLU scored the first two points of the second set and Charlotte never got the score to a tie in that set and the Billikens trailed only at 1-0 in the third, holding Charlotte to a zero hit percentage in the last stanza.

Three 49ers, seniors Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) and Shannon McClean (Cypress, Tex. / Cy-Woods HS) and freshman Mireya Braxton (Charlotte, N.C. / Providence HS) all tied for the team lead with seven kills. Rouse and fellow senior Jenna Litoborski (Lemont, Ill.) both had the game-high total of 15 digs.

The home stand concludes next weekend, starting with a Friday night match against Duquesne, starting at 7 p.m. It will be Team and Club Night, with club squads and middle and high school teams in attendance gaining recognition.
