Charlotte golf will head to Durham and the fourth tournament of their season in the Rod Myers Invitational, as the Duke University Golf Club. The tournament will consist of a 36-hole Saturday and a final round on Sunday.
Charlotte will be paired with golfers from East Carolina and five individuals from various teams. These groups will go off on the 10th tee, starting at 7:54 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The 49ers will send three golfers that have competed in every tournament so far this season, another who is making his third tournament appearance, and a pair of golfers taking their first action of the fall.
Juniors Toe Toland (White River Junction, Vt. / Hartford HS) and Franco Castro (Alpharetta, Ga.) and sophomore Raoul Menard (Ange-Gardier, Quebec City, Canada / Beaulieu) are mainstays in the lineup so far this year. Toland's pair of Top 20 finishes leads the team at this point of the season. Freshman Daniel Brantley (Asheboro, N.C.) makes his third-straight lineup card, while senior Braeden Cryderman (Huntsville, Ont. Canada / St. Dominic's) will make his first appearance on the team sheet in 2012. In addition, freshman Thomas Rowland (Consett, England / St. Bedes Catholic School and Sixth Form College) will play in his first action of 2012, taking his first tee box playing as an individual. He will be unable to impact the team score, though getting valuable collegiate experience. There are 11 players scheduled to play as individuals in the tournament field this weekend.
The field includes host and No. 18 Duke as well as conference neighbors No. 43 UNC Chapel Hill and N.C. State, along with the Pirates. Out of state guests Iowa, No. 16 Northwestern, No. 26 Liberty, No. 28 Tulsa, Baylor, and Pacific round out the field. Charlotte is listed at No. 75 in the latest Golfweek rankings. The 49ers have placed third and fourth in their last two tournaments, posting an overall record of 22-16 so far.
The Duke Golf Club is laid out at a par 72, with a course length of 7,111 yards.
