WASHINGTON, D.C. -
Three first half goals
provided an early cushion and the Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team never
looked back in claiming its fifth-straight victory to remain in a tie for first

3-0 and nine points, through Saturday's action. Overall, Charlotte improves to
9-3-1, one victory shy of its third double-digit win campaign in head coach
's four seasons.

registered her first tally since
2009 by slipping a shot past Colonial goalkeeper Shannon Murphy with an attempt
to the upper left corner from 18 yards away.
Just over eight minutes later, the 49ers found themselves ahead, 2-0, as Carrie Dail
fed Jennifer Lee
for a 25-footer to the opposite high corner. It marked
Lee's first collegiate score at 19:51.
Charlotte struck one more time before intermission when Alex Meyers
a long cross from Amanda Jones
at the 36:03 mark. The three-goal advantage
remained through the duration of the half, as the 49ers held 10-3 shot and 4-2
corner kick leads after the opening 45 minutes.
George Washington (4-7-1, 0-3 A-10) finally entered the scoring column itself
at 59:19 when Samie Cloutier booted her 20-foot attempt past 49er keeper Annika
to close the margin to two, 3-1.
Jones increased the Colonial deficit back to three with her team-leading sixth
goal of the campaign at 74:15. She recorded the second score of the afternoon
for Charlotte on a header, redirecting a Dakota Olson
Molly Bruh set up Adriana Moya for the match's final goal at 79:38 to decide
the final outcome, as Moya went around McHenry for the score.
The contest was the lone action during the weekend for the 49ers. They will
return to the field at 7 p.m. Friday at Fordham in Bronx, N.Y., for the second
of a five-game road swing through the conference.
