CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte softball team closed out the fall 2012 season with high hopes and expectations of a bright 2013 campaign.

The Niners compiled a 7-1 mark during the fall season which lasted two weeks. Charlotte saw its offense come alive with the long ball in addition to depth in the circle.

The 49ers seized a major 6-5 win over South Carolina on Saturday. Jessica Plemmons propelled the 49ers to the victory with a grand slam. Pitcher Katie Watkins recorded the win for Charlotte.

Charlotte finished Saturday with a 6-1 win over Greensboro College. Pitcher Katie Lang went the distance for the Niners, recording a game-high eight strikeouts in the win. Offensively, Lang was 2-for-three with two doubles. Alex Rogers, Jackie Kleinsmith and Courtney Carroll each recorded two hits.

On Sunday, Charlotte fell to South Carolina 8-0. Natalie Capone and Jessica Plemmons both finished with hits.

The Niners rebounded with a 4-1 victory over Elon. Watkins had eight strikeouts and allowed just four hits in seven innings. Charlotte's offense exploded as Natalie Capone, Alex Rogers, Brianna Gwaltney, Plemmons, Chelsea Lisikatos and Lindsey Holloman all recorded hits.

The 49ers begin the 2013 season against Notre Dame on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the D.L. Phillips Softball Complex.
