Charlotte golf sits fifth after two rounds of the Rees Jones Collegiate Invite, taking place at Haig Point in Daufuskie Island, S.C. Tuesday's round three final round has a shotgun start at 8:30 p.m. The 49ers will be paired with East Carolina and Kennesaw State for the final round.
Charlotte sits at 26-over with a 602 (306-296) after a ten-stroke improvement from the morning round to the afternoon session. The 49ers tied for the second-best round-two score of the day, with an eight-over round.
"We played better in the afternoon," said head coach Ryan Cabbage." A couple of guys got off to slow starts in the morning and some guys had trouble finishing. We just have to be ready to go tomorrow and put together a good round and execute the way we are capable of. We are excited to have fun and get out there and play well Tuesday.
Freshman Daniel Brantley (Asheboro, N.C.) leads the Niners at five-over after two rounds. He is currently tied for ninth at 149 (75-74) so far in the tournament. He leads the entire tournament field with 27 total pars for the two rounds played. He and sophomore teammate Raoul Menard (Ange-Gardier, Quebec City, Canada) were both one-under in par-three scoring in the tournament, tied for fourth-best in the tournament field.
Freshman Dan Hendry (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) had the biggest turnaround from the first to the second round for the 49ers, turning a 10-over par round to a one-over 73 in the afternoon. He is tied for the seventh-most birdies in the tournament to this point, with six total, including four in the afternoon round.
Ian McConnell of tournament leader and No. 40 Liberty, leads after two rounds with a two-under 142 (68-74). Liberty has four of the top five players on the leaderboard and leads the tournament with a two-under 574 (284-290).
Charlotte is just one stroke behind East Carolina and eight back of Winthrop for third place entering Tuesday's final day.
