CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte women's tennis team dropped only six singles games and two in doubles to collect a 7-0 triumph over visiting Belmont Abbey Friday morning in the dual match opener for both squads. The 49ers won all individual matches in straight sets and picked up four singles blank sheets against their cross-town foes.

In doubles, the point easily went to Charlotte (1-0) as it only lost the two games. At the No. 3 position, Iveta Guneva and Jessica Pérez completed the lone sweep with an 8-0 victory over the Crusaders' Brigid Donohue and Abby Poetker.

Both of the top two slots saw the 49ers surrender a single game to their opponents. Anna Ekelund and Lisa Grosselius handed Brooke Ingram and Kirstie Jenkins an 8-1 setback at the No. 1 spot, while Emmanuelle Briant and Natsuko Takayanagi defeated Bridget Franer and Paige French by an identical score.

The bottom two-thirds of the singles lineup helped the Niners clinch the win.

Grosselius knocked off French at No. 3 6-0, 6-0, while Briant garnered a 6-0, 6-0 decision at the No. 4 slot against Franer.

Also starting the dual match campaign with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph was Guneva over Poetker at the No. 5 position and Pérez against Donohue in the No. 6 meeting.

Belmont Abbey (0-1) was able to put together a few game victories at the top-two slots, however, Charlotte was still easily victorious in both matches.

Anna Ekelund posted a 6-2, 6-0 triumph against Ingram at the No. 2 contest, while Takayanagi won the last four games of the second set to notch a 6-1, 6-3 decision against Jenkins in the No. 1 meeting.

The 49ers will return to action with their second dual match of the day, and of the fall, at 3 p.m. Friday against Johnson C. Smith at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
