CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team will step out of the conventional fall tournament slate to play host to a pair of dual matches Friday at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. The 49ers will welcome local foes Belmont Abbey and Johnson C. Smith to campus for 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. matches, respectively.

"We're lucky to have two local teams come in here tomorrow to our new facility and get the dual match feel going," head coach Michaela Gorman said. "With both the men's and women's teams going at the same time against the same opponent, there will be some cheering back and forth. We'll have the scoreboards going and hopefully have a nice crowd out, as well."

Charlotte began its fall slate by competing in the College of Charleston Invitational Sept. 14-16. Senior Anna Ekelund collected the most singles wins with three on her way to a third-place finish in her flight, while freshmen Tyler Baker and Jessica Pérez opened their collegiate campaigns with two victories apiece.

Pérez teamed with junior Emmanuelle Briant for the squad's best doubles ledger at 2-0.

The 49ers finished the 2011-12 year with a 16-6 dual match record, advancing to the Atlantic 10 tournament semifinals.

Charlotte faced Johnson C. Smith last October in dual match action, picking up a 7-0 triumph as the 49ers only dropped six games in singles and two in doubles during the contest.

The Golden Bulls posted a 12-13 record last season with all of their victories coming against conference opponents.

Belmont Abbey concluded last year with an 8-13 mark, including a program-best three league wins.

All action Friday at Charlotte's new on-campus facility is free admission.
