The nationally-ranked Charlotte 49ers men's soccer team (5-1-2) (12th in College Soccer News, 13th in NSCAA and Soccer America polls) plays 2011 NCAA Tournament participant UCF (2-2-2) on the road in their final non-conference game, Wednesday, September 26 at 7 pm.
Jennings Rex leads the team in goals with three. Giuseppe Gentile, Aidan Kirkbride and Donnie Smith are tied for second on the team with two goals apiece. Kirkbride, Will Mayhew, Isaac Caughran and Nick Barnhorst are tied for the team lead in assists with two. Thomas Allen, Tyler Gibson and Anthony Perez have each scored a goal this season as well.
The 49ers defense behind the play of goalkeeper Klay Davis and defenders Allen, Anthony Perez, Nick Barnhorst and Biko Bradnock-Brennan has been stellar this season. The 49ers have only allowed seven goals with three shutouts in over 800 minutes of action this year.
Wednesday's game will mark the sixth meeting between Charlotte and UCF. The 49ers lead the all-time series, 5-0. The 49ers defeated UCF, 4-0, in their last meeting which came at Transamerica Field, September 30, 2008. Isaac Caughran scored his first career goal in that game.
