Elon, NC - The sixth-ranked Charlotte 49ers (5-1-2) suffered their first loss of the season with a 2-0 setback on the road at Elon.

"I was disappointed that we did not compete particularly in the first half," Charlotte coach Kevin Langan said. "We did not show up in the first half. Once we started competing in the second half it was too little too late."

Elon's Chris Thomas scored his first of two goals when he put a Matt Wescoe assist into the back of the net in the 13th minute.

Elon's Thomas scored his second goal of the game off another Wescoe assist in the 33rd minute.

The 49ers finished the game with 17-8 advantage in shots. Jennings Rex led Charlotte with five shots. While, Donnie Smith and Giuseppe Gentile each tallied four shots apiece.

Rex and Gentile each had two shots in the first 12 minutes of the game but their shots went either wide or were blocked. Over the remainder of the first half, Rex would have two more shots and Gentile would have another shot but all three of their shots went high.

In the second half, Smith, Gentile, Rex, Isaac Caughran, Robby Thomas, Anthony Perez and Thomas Allen all took shots but the majority of the shots were high or wide. In the 72nd minute, Smith took a shot that was stopped by Elon's goalkeeper Nathan Dean.
