GREENSBORO, NC - Giuseppe Gentile scored as the fifth-ranked Charlotte 49ers (5-0-2) tied UNC Greensboro, 1-1, in double overtime on the road. The 49ers have played five double overtime games in their first seven games.

"A huge thank you to the Queen City Army that made the trip to Greensboro tonight," Charlotte coach Kevin Langan. "The players and coaching staff really appreciated their support tonight it felt like a home game. Hopefully we will see them next Saturday at Elon. Tonight was a tough game. UNCG plays very direct. We did an unbelievable job of defending tonight. We have had a tough stretch playing four games in eight days so to come out of that stretch with a 3-0-1 record is fantastic."

Charlotte took an early 1-0 lead when Gentile headed a Nick Barnhorst cross into the back of the net in the 11th minute. Gentile's goal was his second of the season and the 12th of his career.

UNC Greensboro tied the score at one when Hakan Ilhan headed in a Jake Fields cross in the 20th minute.

Charlotte finished the game with 11 shots. Giuseppe Gentile led the 49ers with four shots. While Donnie Smith added two shots to the 49ers attack.

The 49ers defense continues to be stellar as Charlotte has only allowed five goals in 712 minutes of action this season.

Charlotte will not return to action until they play 2011 NCAA Tournament participant Elon on the road next Saturday, September 22 at 7 pm.
