Senior setter Lily Vera (Anderson, S.C. / Stone Bridge HS) recorded her third career double-double with 49 assists and 12 digs to help Charlotte win its first home volleyball match of the season 3-1 (26-24, 25-11, 21-25, 25-20) over visiting UNC Asheville on day two of the Hilton University 49er Invitational. The 49ers improve the season record to 8-3, dropping the Bulldogs to 4-11.

Vera's first double-double came back in her freshman season of 2009, when she had 45 assists and 13 digs at High Point, recording another earlier this season against Gardner-Webb in five sets. She steadied Charlotte after a slow third set and disheveled start to the fourth.

The Niners and Bulldogs played to 12 ties and five lead changes in the first, with Charlotte needing an extra point to capture the win. Freshman Mireya Braxton (Charlotte, N.C./ Providence HS) had the hot hand in the opening frame, with five kills on nine attempts with no errors to lead the Niners in kills in the opening-set win.

Charlotte started out to a 5-0 run to open the second and was never threatened in the lopsided set. The Niners forced 10 Asheville errors and sided out the Bulldogs on 90% of their serves in the frame.

The third set was mostly Charlotte early on, but a pair of 3-0 runs near the midway point and a 5-0 run to end the frame gave Asheville its first set victory of the weekend.

Down 7-1 to start the fourth set, Charlotte rallied back with a pair of 5-0 runs to overtake the Bulldogs and win going away.

Senior Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) led all players with 16 kills. She jumped two spots to tenth on Charlotte's all-time career kills list in the match, one ahead of Cori Dayton (2004-07.) The list starts to separate at this point, as she is 46 behind Jessica Oldenburg (2003-06) for ninth place.

Junior Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) added 14 kills, while Braxton finished with a career-high 11.

The 49ers will take on Towson to finish the weekend. That match begins at 7 p.m.
