CHARLOTTE, N.C. -
The Charlotte 49ers women's
soccer team will look to continue its current three-match unbeaten streak as it
plays two more matches this weekend, starting at 7 p.m. Thursday at home against
cross-county rival Davidson. The 49ers will also travel to Harrisonburg, Va.,
for a 1 p.m. Sunday contest at James Madison.
"We brought the Davidson game forward a day because we felt we can get a nice
crowd with the local club teams," head coach John Cullen
said. "It will be a
great game, it always is. There will be some good moments of soccer and some
good, hard challenges with good intensity. That's what you can expect from a
Charlotte-Davidson soccer game.
"James Madison is an excellent team. We are looking forward to playing at the
new facility up there, facing a phenomenal opponent in a great stadium. It's an
exciting week for us."
Charlotte has not lost in its last three outings, posting a 2-0-1 record to
improve to 4-2-1 on the campaign. During the three-game stretch, the 49ers have
handed East Carolina and North Florida setbacks, while they earned a tie
Senior Carrie Dail
netted the game-winning goal in both victories, moving her
into a tie with sophomores Amanda Jones
and Sara Trexler
for the team lead with
two scores thus far. The only other Charlotte player to register a goal has
been junior Dakota Olson
, who posted her first in Sunday's draw against the
Davidson brings a 1-3-2 ledger into Thursday's meeting, having garnered a pair
of ties last weekend against Clemson and North Florida. The Wildcats' lone win
came August 26 against Tennessee Tech with Tori Krause registering two of the
squad's five goals to-date.
The 49ers lead the all-time series against their cross-county mates, 11-3-2.
The 11 victories represent the most against an opponent in program history.
James Madison will play at Navy Friday night before welcoming Charlotte to
town. The Dukes currently are 2-4 after dropping a tilt at No. 7/9 Virginia
Sunday as part of the Virginia Nike Classic.
Charlotte and James Madison have only met once previously, a 1-0 triumph for
the Dukes in the 2002 NCAA Tournament First Round at Transamerica Field. It was
just one of two losses for the 49ers that season.
In-game updates for both matches will be available on Twitter @49erGameDay and
in-game subscription-based video will be housed on Charlotte49ers.com for
Thursday and JMUSports.com for Sunday.
