Wilmington, NC - Charlotte began their 2012 Fall Tournament schedule at the UNC Wilmington Landfall Invitational this weekend, September 7-9.
In Flight A singles, Charlotte's Kamil Khalil defeated Old Dominion's Terenzio, 6-4, 6-0, in the first round. Then, he lost to UNC Wilmington's Aita, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. Charlotte's Alex Calott lost to VCU's Vazquez, 6-4, 6-3, in the first round. Then, he lost to East Carolina's Soriano, 7-5, 7-5, in the backdraw. Charlotte's Jack Williams defeated VCU's Voscek, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round. Then, he lost to UNC Wilmington's Cooprider, 6-1, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.
In Flight B singles, Charlotte's Paul Cisti defeated Old Dominion's Schweig, 7-5, 6-0, in the first round. Then, he lost to UNC Wilmington's Blank, 6-4, 6-1. Charlotte's freshman Jordi Massalle Ferer won his first college match with a 7-5, 6-2, win over Old Dominion's Glavin. Then, he lost to UNC Wilmington's Pereira in three hard fought sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. Then, Charlotte's Forrest Edwards lost to UNC Wilmington's Reilly, 6-2, 7-6.
In Flight C singles, Charlotte's Alex Weber defeated East Carolina's Gregory, 6-4, 6-4 to reach the Championship match. . He had to default in the Championship match. Charlotte's Nate Shanok lost to UNC Wilmington's Hublitz. Then, he lost to East Carolina's Wolterbeek, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5.
In Flight A doubles, Charlotte's Khalil and Ferrer defeated East Carolina's Soriano and Brenard, 8-5. Then, they defeated Old Dominion's Lopez-Villa and Schweig, 8-4, to advance to the semifinals. Then, they lost to UNC Wilmington's Blak and Cooprider, 8-4. In other Flight A doubles action, Charlotte's Calott and Williams lost to UNC Wilmington's Mol and Reilly, 8-6. Then, they lot to Old Dominion's Lopez-Villa and Schweig, 8-3.
In Flight B doubles, Charlotte's Weber and Shanok lost to Old Dominion's Glavin and Cetinel, 8-1. Then, they defeated East Carolina's Gregory and Nigro, 8-5. In other Flight B doubles action, Charlotte's Cisti and Edwards lost to UNC Wilmington's Hublitz and Pereira, 8-4. Then, they defeated Old Dominion's Terenzio and Rodriguez, 8-0.
Charlotte returns to action when they host the 49er Pick'em at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex, September 14-16.
