Charlotte volleyball continues to play at venues closer to home, and plays its third and final non-conference road tournament weekend at nearby Gardner-Webb at the Runnin' Bulldog Classic in Boiling Springs, N.C. Charlotte will take on Delaware State Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. before an 11 a.m. match versus UM-Kansas City and the 5 p.m. finale against host GWU on Saturday, all matches in Paul Porter Arena.
The 49ers are 4-2 entering the weekend, with a three-set sweep of Chattanooga as their lastest result, last Saturday evening at the Clemson Classic. After sweeps in the first three matches of the year, the 49ers finished 1-2 last weekend, winning the opening set in the first two matches, against host Clemson and East Tennessee State, before losing both of those in four sets. Charlotte has won the opening set in all six matches this season.
Junior Amanda Videmsek (Highland Heights, Ohio / Beaumont School) was the 49ers lone ALl-Tournament performaer last weekend. She is hitting .336 for the season, ranking her sixth in the Atlantic 10 Conference for attack percentage to this point of the season. Her 3.65 kills-per-set average are fourth in the league through two weeks of play.
Senior Bianca Rouse (Columbia, S.C. / Keenan HS) rankes third in the league with 4.05 kills per set this season. She leads Charlotte with 81 kills this season, and climbed three spots on Charlotte's all-time career kills chart, sitting with 1,057 for her career, five behind Esra Akgun (1998-2001) for the next spot on the list.
Senior Lily Vera (Anderson, S.C. / Stone Bridge HS) has amassed the second-best assists-per-set mark to this point of the season in the league, at 11.47 in 2012.
Fellow senior Jenna Litoborski (Lemont, Ill.) has posted 90 digs to lead Charlotte through two weekends. Her 4.5 digs-per-set-average is ranked fifth in the A-10.
Delaware State is 1-5 so far in 2012, while UM-Kansas City is 5-3. Gardner-Webb has started 1-7 on the season, their lone win coming in their final match of last weekend, over North Carolina Central.
Charlotte will host its final three matches of the non-conference schedule, when the Niners open Halton Arena in the Hilton University 49er Invitational.
