Charlotte, N.C. - For the 11th year in a row, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will hold the annual September 11th Memorial Blood Drive on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 11:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m in the Student Activity Center (SAC) Food Court.
Charlotte student-athletes have shown their dedication to the community service project by exceeding its goals of more than 100 units of blood for the American Red Cross over the past few years.
Student-athletes from several different teams will volunteer their time by recruiting donors. Charlotte student-athletes have also been an integral part of the blood drive's success by becoming self-donors.
Last year, 27 student-athletes donated blood in support of the drive. Thirty eight student-athletes from eight teams volunteered 48.5 hours of their time to help the event and also recruited 32 donors.
The Annual September 11th Memorial Blood Drive is one of many community service projects that the 49ers do in conjunction with the Life Skills Program. The purpose of the Life Skills Program is to increase student-athletes' opportunities for success in life beyond the sport. The program is a comprehensive approach to providing educational experiences, programming, and services which focus on the individual.
