Charlotte softball coach Aimee DeVos has announced the hiring of Katy Hackett as the latest addition to her coaching staff for the 2012-13 season. Hackett brings experience from both the professional and collegiate level where she concluded a dazzling four-year stint as a 49er.

"Bringing Katy back to the 49er softball program is incredibly exciting for us," said DeVos. "Katy will be very instrumental in further developing our young pitching staff and pushing them to being the best in the A10."

Hackett, a former pitcher will mainly work with pitchers in the areas of mechanics and development.

In the fall of 2011, Hackett played professionally and spent four months with the Wesseling Vermins of Germany. She also made appearances in the European and German Cup. 

Hackett made an immediate impact in the circle her freshman season and continued to flourish as one of the 49ers' top pitchers. In her senior season, she was named to the 2011 Atlantic 10- All-Tournament Team, All-Atlantic 10 Second Team, and was a NCCSIA All-State selection. Her 21 victories that year were fifth-most in a single-season in program history. She stands second all-time in career strikeouts (622), fourth in career wins (62) and starts (102).

"I'm excited to be back at Charlotte," Hackett said. "It's flattering to know that you're wanted back. I love this school and the softball program. I'm ready to watch this team grow and develop. Aimee is such a great person and since I've played for her I know her style and what she expects, so I think it'll be a great relationship."

Alongside playing in Germany and at Charlotte, Hackett also worked as a pitching instructor.  

Hackett graduated from Charlotte in May 2011 with a degree in communication.
