Charlotte, NC - Senior Carrie Dail scored two goals to lead the Charlotte 49ers to a 3-1 victory over UNC Asheville in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon at Transamerica Field.

The Bulldogs initiated the attack early as Shenny Lenhart scored Asheville's only goal in the third minute.

Dail responded with consecutive goals in the 20th and 21st minute to give the 49ers a 2-1 advantage. Dail's goals were assisted by Darby Broeker and Dakota Olson.

Charlotte answered again in the 32nd minute when Sara Trexler scored to push the game to 3-1.

Goalkeepers Alex Kubrick, Alex Weaver, and Annika McHenry all saw time in goal. McHenry finished with three saves, followed by Kubrick with two.

The 49ers tallied 24 shots with 15 being shots on goal. Asheville goalkeeper Heather Muller recorded 12 saves.

"We looked a bit rusty in the first few minutes but I thought we responded well," head coach John Cullen said after the exhibition game. "Today was an option to give everybody some playing time and for the newcomers to experience collegiate soccer. "

Charlotte opens its regular season schedule when it visits the College of Charleston on Saturday, August 18 for a 7 p.m. game.
