Charlotte, NC - The 49ers women's soccer team will kick off their 2012 season on Saturday, August 11 as they host UNC Asheville for an exhibition game beginning at 2 p.m. at Transamerica Field.

Charlotte was picked sixth in the 2012 Atlantic 10 preseason poll which is conducted by the league's 16 head coaches.

The 49ers return 15 letterwinners from last season, which was headed by sophomore Amanda Jones who was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team. In 2011, Jones was third on the team in goals with three, and she also recorded three assists. Alongside Jones, Charlotte will look to count on junior goalkeeper Alex Kubrick, and a strong senior class including Carrie Dail, Lacey McGowan, and Lena Suarez for leadership. In addition, Charlotte welcomed 11 newcomers to the 2012 squad.

Charlotte begins its regular season schedule on Saturday, August 18 against the College of Charleston at 7 p.m.
