The Charlotte 49ers men's soccer team, the 2011 NCAA Div. I National Runner-up, has been picked 8th in the 2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) preseason poll.

Charlotte returns eight starters and 13 letterwinners from the historic College Cup squad.  The 49ers were 16-5-4 last year with a 6-1-2 mark in the Atlantic 10.

The men's soccer team finished #2 in the final NSCAA Coaches Poll after being the first team in school history in any sport to compete in an NCAA Championship game.  First-year Head Coach Kevin Langan returns several key players, including 2011 Soccer America National Freshman of the Year and A-10 Rookie of the Year Giuseppe Gentile, and 2011 All-Atlantic 10 picks Donnie Smith and Tyler Gibson

Charlotte returns one of the top goalkeepers in the Atlantic 10, Klay Davis, as well, and the 49ers sport a standout senior class of Aaron Weldon, Owen Darby, Isaac Caughran, Donnie Smith and Jennings Rex. The 49ers also return stalwarts Aidan Kirkbride, Will Mayhew, Thomas Allen and Anthony Perez.

Charlotte is picked 8th in the preseason poll and will host two early non-conference games against top 25 foes.  Charlotte faces #17 Coastal Carolina, Aug. 27 at Transamerica Field and battles #21 UAB at home on Aug. 31.  The 49ers will also host South Carolina, Sept. 12.  South Carolina is receving votes in the preseason poll.

Charlotte, the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic 10 title, are the only A-10 school in the preseason rankings.  Xavier is receiving votes.
