Ryan Atchison is in his fourth year as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. Atchison came to Charlotte after spending two years as assistant strength and conditioning coach with the NBA's Houston Rockets.
Atchison, who serves as strength and conditioning coach for the 49ers men's basketball and men's golf programs, heads a department that has two assistant strength and conditioning coaches and a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach.
From 2006-08, he was assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Rockets. Prior to joining the Rockets support staff, he spent four years (2002-06), as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Rice University. He then spent one year as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Louisiana Tech. He also spent three years at Hardin-Simmons University as the strength and conditioning coach as well as a teacher in the physical education department. Then, he spent one year as the strength and conditioning coach and inside linebackers coach at Quincy University.
Atchison began his professional career as outside linebacker coach at his alma mater Sul Ross State from 1995-97.
Atchison earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Sul Ross State in 1996. Then, he earned a Master's Degree in Physical Education from Hardin-Simmons University in 2001.
Atchison is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS), Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) and a USA Weightlifting Certified Club Coach.
