The Charlotte 49ers 2012-13 Women's Basketball Schedule took shape when the Atlantic 10 announced the home and away matchups for the upcoming season.
With Butler and VCU pushing the league's membership to 16 schools, this year, the league's 14-game schedule includes single-game match-ups with seven opponents at home and seven on the road. Each school will not play one Atlantic 10 team this season. The 49ers will not play defending A-10 Tournament Champion Dayton this season.
Charlotte will play home games against Butler, Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, Temple, VCU and Xavier. The 49ers will play road games against La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's and Saint Louis.
Dates for the games are expected to be released in late August or early September.
Head coach Cara Consuegra will enter her second season with the 49ers. Charlotte, who reached postseason play for the tenth consecutive season last year, returns ten letterwinners and five starters off last season's WNIT team. Charlotte will be led by senior forward Jennifer Hailey, a 2012 all-Atlantic 10 choice who averaged 13.7 points. Hailey led the Atlantic 10 in rebounding (9.3 boards) and blocked shots (73 blocks) last season. Senior guard Jai Forney averaged 8.0 points and 4.3 rebounds last year. Senior forward Amanda Dowe finished second in the A-10 in rebounding while averaging 7.0 points per game. Junior guard Ny Hammonds led the 49ers with 109 assists. Sophomore Hillary Sigmon, who earned A-10 All-Rookie team honors, averaged 7.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per game last year. Junior Gabby Tyler, who was a 2011 A-10 All-Rookie team selection, averaged 8.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Sophomore Ayanna Holmes started 26 of the 49ers 30 games at point guard last season. Charlotte will welcome a class of four newcomers to join its ten returnees.
